Faux Wood Grain, New Concrete Stains

Counter faces and floors can both get tired and boring after time and wear take their respective tolls.

The counters at this Sarasota paint store had seen better days, about seven years ago. The formica was worn and dirty; chunks were missing in a few places. With some cleaning, putty, sanding, and priming, they were ready to look better than new.

Classic faux sponge finishes were applied to the fronts and one end of each counter. Then, faux wood finishes (last visted in the Fall of 2007) were applied to the remaining ends. As professional painters have looked at them over the past two days, they've asked if it was real wood. All are amazed to learn that it's merely paint.

The concrete sample boards show a new water-based product called Mason Select; it is a penetrating concrete stain intended for unsealed, etched concrete. It yields results remarkably similar to acid staining without the expense and risks common to acid staining.
